We recently completed a fully bespoke conversion on a VW T6.1 Transporter, turning a standard panel van into a refined, camper-ready build packed with premium touches and practical upgrades. Every element was carefully thought out, from the materials used to the flexible layout, making this van a perfect example of a style meeting function.
Refined Interior: Full Suede Trim & Custom Upholstery
Starting in the cab, we retrimmed the standard headliner, A-pillars, and B-pillars in rich suede, instantly lifting the feel of the front cabin. The rear headliner was also finished in matching suede, maintaining a seamless, high-end look throughout the van.
To tie everything together, we retrimmed the front seats to match the Rock 'n' Roll bed, creating a consistent and stylish interior that feels like an actual custom build, not just a van with parts added on.
Audio Upgrade: Alpine SPC Speakers & Subwoofer
We upgraded the front sound system with Alpine SPC speakers, delivering crisp audio and balanced mids that represent a significant improvement over factory components. Beneath the seat, an Alpine under-seat subwoofer delivers the low-end punch perfect for road trip playlists or relaxing at the campsite.
Fully Equipped Rear: Carpeting, Lighting, Flooring & Furniture
The rear cargo area was fully carpet-lined in silver grey, giving it a clean, finished feel that also helps with insulation and sound dampening. Overhead, we installed spotlights in the suede-lined rear headliner, along with a spotlight in the tailgate for visibility when the tailgate is open at night.
Underfoot, we laid a stunning oak effect floor, complete with an integrated track system that allows the Rock 'n' Roll bed to slide forward and backward. This flexibility transforms the space, whether you're in drive mode or parked up for the night.
Along the side, we built a custom handmade bench seat, which not only adds extra seating but also incorporates under-seat storage essential for keeping gear tucked away but easily accessible. Additionally, we installed a full-height rear wardrobe, providing the van with actual camper functionality without compromising on space or style.
Windows, Rail & External Upgrades
For natural light and ventilation, we fitted a fixed window on the driver's side and an opening window on the passenger side, allowing fresh air to enter while you relax or cook. A black awning rail was added above the sliding door, prepped for a sunshade or drive-away awning to extend the living space outside.
Off-Grid Power System: Victron Energy + Lithium Setup
This T6.1 is also equipped for off-grid capability. We installed an E-grill hookup for easy access to shore power, along with a mains charger and a AGM leisure battery for extended battery life and better performance. The system is managed by a Victron Energy DC-DC charger, ensuring the battery charges efficiently whether you're plugged in or on the move.
